As we head towards the spookiest night of the year, I’m very pleased that my little Victorian novella, The Veil Between, is now available in e-book on Amazon, and the paperback will be available in a day or two.
This story began when my daughter and a writing friend encouraged me to set the next novella in the Maryanne Mystery series at All Hallows Eve. Since I love everything about October, and enjoy writing about Maryanne and Richard, I accepted the challenge!
The Victorian era is rich with possibilities and once I decided on my setting, at a country manor in the Scottish Borders (since Maryanne lives in that area, as does Richard when not in London), I then developed the storyline.
Of course, my Halloween story needed a mystery, since they tend to follow Maryanne wherever she goes. Rather than give away too much, here’s a short blurb to hopefully whet your curiosity!
The Veil Between
Maryanne and Richard are invited to an old friend’s manor house in the Scottish Borders for Halloween in 1861. But it soon becomes apparent that all is not well with the host’s young wife.
Then a village child goes missing and Maryanne and Richard help to search for her.
With tales meant to entertain, including the opening of doors to the faerie kingdom, and the veil between worlds at its thinnest, All Hallows Eve proves more disturbing than Maryanne envisioned.
Happy Halloween!
